As superhero fans, especially those who have long idolized heroes since they appeared in comics, it is natural that we have high expectations for films that raise the story of our idols.
And the best superhero films such as The Dark Knight, Avengers: Infinity Wars, Wonder Woman and Black Panther did succeed in satisfying their fans.
But apparently not all superhero films are successful. This time I want to tell you the 7 worst superhero movies ever!
1. Green Lantern
Green Latern is one of DC’s most famous superheroes. Unfortunately, when adapted into a movie with Ryan Reynold as the main character, this film is considered a failure.
This movie is not able to meet the expectations as one of the best superhero films. In fact, the revenue was far below the production cost.
Fortunately, Reynolds’ career was saved because he moved to Marvel and starred in one of the most successful supervillain movies, Deadpool.
2. Jonah Hex
Starring Josh Brolin, the film Jonah Hex is considered to have failed to adapt his comic.
In fact, Brolin is reportedly no longer willing to play superhero movies due to this failure. Fortunately, the actor wants to change his mind and become Thanos at the MCU.
Imagine if Brolin rejects the role of Thanos. It is possible that Marvel movies would not be as successful as now if Thanos were played by other actors.
Elektra is a spin-off film from Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck in 2003. This film became the first female superhero movie from Marvel.
Played by Jennifer Garner, the film was heavily criticized for the scripts and poor acting of the main character.
Because of this failure, Fox returned the rights to use the characters in the film Daredevil (including Elektra) to Marvel.
In 2015, Marvel released the TV series Daredevil for Netflix and received positive response from fans.
Starring Halle Berry, who plays Storm in the X-Men series.
Thanks to this film (and Elektra), there is a stigma that female superhero movies will never successful. This assumption was only broken by the film Wonder Woman, which was released in 2017.
Catwoman’s costume which was considered too sexy, confusing plot, and rough CGI made this film seem carelessly worked.
5. Batman & Robin
Let’s forget for a moment the Batman version of Ben Affleck or Christian Bale.
It happened two decades ago, when Batman was played by George Clooney.
Released in 1997, Batman & Robin were expected to continue the success of the two previous Batman movies starring Michael Keaton.
Apparently, this movie actually became the worst Batman live-action film of all time. It took 8 years for the masked hero to return to the big screen.
Fortunately, Batman movies which directed by Christopher Nolan were able to restore Batman’s good name in the cinema scene.
6. Batman v. Superman
In an effort to pursue the success of Marvel with its MCU, DC looks overwhelmed.
After the failure of Man of Steel, DC released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which brought together the two main DC superheroes, Superman and Batman.
The result? Many fans are disappointed by this film because it looks messy. Critics also blasphemed completely.
Want to know what is the funniest thing from this film? The fight between Batman and Superman can be stopped just because their two mothers have the same name!
7. Suicide Squad
The concept of the film Suicide Squad was actually very interesting. As part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), this film brings together many supervillains in one film.
They are Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Rick Flag, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Killer, and Katana.
Unfortunately, this movie has a pretty messy storyline and gets a lot of sharp criticism.
